The BulletProof Diet was created by Dave Asprey (the BulletProof Executive) based on a lot of personal research and what he calls, in tech language, BioHacking.
There are a lot of rules detailed on his website, https://www.bulletproofexec.com/
And in his new book, “The Bulletproof Diet”.
I have been trying it out for a few weeks and have lost more than 12 pounds so far. Although I haven’t been perfect in meeting all of his eating rules, I think most people would be similarly adherent.
The two main components of the plan, which I have been following faithfully, and which have not been as challenging as I had feared are:
Bulletproof coffee – this is organic coffee with MCT oil and a spoonful of butter blended together. I love this. Note – Asprey sells Upgraded coffee and Brain Octane MCT oil on his website. I have been using his products and enjoy them. There are online discussions as to whether they are superior to other products.
Intermittent fasting – this seems to be key as well. The simplest form of this is what I use – I stop eating after dinner around 7:00pm and don’t eat again until lunch the next day about noon or later. It was challenging the first couple of days, but now I never feel hungry. Sometimes I skip lunch too and only have one meal per day. The longer I wait the better the results seem to be.
So, to summarize, there is no breakfast or snacking other than your coffee. In addition, you should have a very low carb intake to induce ketosis. You don’t want a lot of protein either. He recommends having protein fasting periods as well. That means a lot of fat! I endorse that concept. As more health professionals are slowly coming to understand (but not many of the dieting masses – who will think you are crazy), eating fat doesn’t make you fat.
